Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has expressed pessimism about his team’s hopes of reaping success in the Champions League this season, acknowledging that the Catalans are not at the level of the top teams.

Speaking to the media before the match against Benfica on Wednesday, Koeman admitted that Barcelona has no hope of winning the most valuable European trophy for clubs.

“We have to be realistic, for now, with the changes we have made to the team, it is extremely difficult to be at the level of the main teams,” said Koeman.

The Dutch coach also spoke about the return of Ansu Fati from injury and his first goal after 11 months off the field.

“(Ansu Fati) was very tired on Monday, the emotions had their effect. On Tuesday, he trained without any problems.” he said.

“We want to give him more minutes, but I can’t say before the game how many minutes he will play,” added Koeman.
