Icardi comes off the bench and secures PSG victory over Lyon in Messi’s home debut

Mauro Icardi was the hero of Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, securing a 2-1 victory over Lyon with a very late goal, to maintain the perfect progress of the Parisians’ victories.

Lyon had taken the lead through Lucas Paquet, but PSG managed to reverse the score thanks to a penalty by Neymar and a fantastic Icardi goal in the 94th minute at the Parc des Princes.

This is the sixth consecutive victory for PSG, which is now the leader with maximum points, 18, followed by Marseille with 13 and one game less.

Lyon remains ninth with only eight points.

In Messi’s debut at the Parc des Princes and his first in Ligue 1, Mauricio Pochettino’s team did not find the expected collaboration between strikers Neymar, Mbappe and Messi.

Messi was close to scoring, but his free-kick was stopped by the post in the first half.

Lyon caused trouble to the locals from time to time, with Xherdan Shaqiri hitting hard from a difficult position in the area, but was stopped by goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma.

Paqueta broke the ice at the beginning of the first half, when he scored from close range to give Lyon the lead in the 54th minute.

But Neymar equalized the score to 1: 1 scoring from the penalty that he won himself in the 66th minute.

About a quarter before the end, Pochettino decided to remove Messi from the game to replace him with Achraf Hakimi, a decision that his compatriot did not welcome at all and refused to give his hand to the coach.

Icardi entered the game instead of Di Maria about 10 minutes before the end and scored a beautiful header in the 90 + 2 minute to secure the sixth consecutive victory for PSG.

The Argentine striker turned into an unexpected hero for his team.
