Pirlo: I got Juventus back on track

Andrea Pirlo believes that he has done enough to convince the Juventus hierarchy to keep him in the post of coach next season, saying that he has put the team on track in his debut season as white and black coach.

Pirlo’s Juventus secured participation in the Champions League for next season with a 4: 1 victory against Bologna on the last day of the season in Serie A and thanks to Napoli’s draw with Verona.

Just a few days earlier, the Whites also won the Italian Cup, defeating Atalanta in Wednesday’s final.

But Pirlo has faced pressure and an uncertain future since Juve were eliminated early in the Champions League after Porto lost and Inter secured the Serie A title early on.

Pirlo says it took time for his players to understand his strategy and insists Juventus will be very strong if he remains the coach with this group of players.

“I am never scared. It took me a while to establish a routine in training sessions. It took me a while to get the boys to understand what I was looking for. It has not been easy to come here among many champions, but everyone has helped me,” said Pirlo.

“I have improved. It was a complicated but rewarding season for my development. We are on the right track as long as we help each other and all together work towards our goal. At the beginning of the season we missed all this,” he added.

“In the end, we achieved the result (qualification to the Champions League). If we start the new season together, we will have a strong base.”
