AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has confirmed that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave the club in the summer as a free agent. Donnarumma made his debut with Milan at the age of 16 and has been described as the best young goalkeeper in the world of football, while he has been a starter for six seasons for Milan. The 22-year-old, who will also defend for the Italian National Team, has many opportunities to find a new team.

“He was a protagonist, a leader and always a captain,” Maldini told for the goalkeeper during an interview with the official AC Milan channel. “A professional must be ready to change his shirt,” Maldini continued. “It is extremely difficult to start and end a career where it left off.”

“We have to thank those who gave so much for Milan and Gigio did it, where he never humiliated the club. Our roads are divided here and I wish him all the best.”

Who will replace Donnarumma?

With Donnarumma expected to leave, AC Milan have identified Like goalkeeper Mike Maigna as their favorite. The 25-year-old Frenchman has been escorted from Milan this week and he is expected to undergo medical tests, where his formalization is expected very soon.

Milan will pay 15 million euros for Maigna, who helped Lille to be declared Ligue 1 champion this season.
