Giorgio Chiellini will miss Sunday’s match at Euro 2020 against Wales with a muscle problem, writes Sky Sport Italia.
The 36-year-old suffered an injury and was substituted in the first half of the match against Switzerland, where the Italians won 3-0.
Chiellini underwent medical examinations in Florence today and although his injury is not ‘serious’, he is expected to miss the next match against Wales on Sunday.
According to Sky Sport Italia, his physical condition will be assessed every day and it is still unclear whether he will recover in time for the first direct elimination match, or for the quarterfinals.
Italy have qualified for the knockout stages without playing their last game, while a draw against Wales on Sunday would be enough to stay at the top of the group.
Whether Italy wins their group or not, they will play in the knockout round directly on June 26th.
