The Spanish national team will return today (Friday) its most experienced player, Sergio Busquets for the remaining matches in Euro 2020, after being negative.

The Spanish Football Federation has said Busquets came out negative for COVID-19 on Thursday, so he will be allowed to return to the team as he has been in isolation since testing positive on 6 June.

The Barcelona midfielder will be in Seville for Spain’s match against Poland on Saturday, although he is unlikely to play as he has not trained regularly while in isolation.

Spain opened the Euro 2020 European Championship with a 0-0 draw against Sweden in Group E, while waiting to return to victories so as not to risk qualifying.

Diego Llorente also went into solitary confinement due to the coronavirus, but the defender has already rejoined the squad after health officials determined that his test result was a false positive test.

Otherwise, Busquets is the most experienced player in the Spanish team. He is the only one left from the 2010 World Cup winning team.

Busquets was replaced by Rodri Hernandez in the match against Sweden, and Jordi Alba took over as team captain in his absence.

The federation had thought to remove Busquets and Llorente from the team after they tested positive, but Luis Enrique decided to wait for them.

Spain will travel today (Friday) from its base in Madrid to Sevilla.
