Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has informed Ousmane Dembele through his manager that he will not play for the Catalan team, even if he decides to stay at the Camp Nou.
Xavi and Dembele’s manager, Moussa Sissoko, met on Tuesday to talk about the Frenchman’s future at the Camp Nou.
This was the first time Xavi and Sissoko met and the latter was eager to understand the club’s sincere opinion of Dembele, when the January transfer window is heading towards closure.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Xavi was honest with Sissoko and made it clear to him that Barca wanted Dembele to stay, as shown by the two offers made to him, which he rejected.
When Barcelona realized that Dembele did not intend to sign a new contract with the club, the management decided that his departure this month is the best thing for everyone.
This was said by Xavi Sissoko in Tuesday’s meeting, according to the Spanish daily.
Sissoko had asked what would happen if no conditions were met – Dembele’s renewal or removal – but Xavi was clear and did not back down.
“If he does not accept one of these options, he will no longer play for Barcelona,” Xavi said.
