With reports that Georginio Wijnaldum has signed for Paris Saint-Germain, AS points out that Barcelona have now turned their attention to Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Wijnaldum’s signing for PSG took Barcelona by surprise, who were very close to transferring the Dutchman from Liverpool. The Catalans even had verbal agreements with him.
He suddenly changed his mind yesterday after PSG offered twice as much salary as Barcelona and Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported today that Wijnaldum has signed a contract with the team from “Parc des Princes” until June 2024.
This means that Barcelona needs a replacement and AS reports that the Catalans have chosen Pellegrini. The Italian representative turns 25 this month and has a 30 million euro clause in his contract. The renovation with Rome has been discussed for some time now, but there is still nothing concrete, as the current contract expires next year.
Despite injuries, Pellegrini contributed 11 goals and nine assists in 47 games for Roma last season. He helped the team reach the Europa League semi-finals, to be eliminated by Manchester United.
