Barcelona president Joan Laporta has admitted that the club had made efforts to bring Neymar back to the Camp Nou when he regained the post of Catalan club boss after the Brazilian had expressed a desire to return.
Neymar’s return to Barcelona has been talked about since he joined Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros, a world record, in 2017.
Neymar was said to be eager to reunite with Lionel Messi – which has now happened in France – and Barca had left the door open for his return.
But Neymar signed a new contract with PSG and his return to Barca failed.
Laporta, who was voted Barcelona president for the second time in March, told Esport3 when asked if he had tried to bring Neymar back to Barcelona: “Yes, we tried to sign Neymar again.”
“He contacted us and wanted to come,” Laporta said.
Neymar signed a new agreement with PSG in May, which will keep him in the French capital until the summer of 2025.
