De Jong, one step away from Manchester United

The financial crisis is preventing Barcelona from making progress in its sporting planning ahead of next season, as the Blaugrana have not yet managed to strengthen their squad.

To do so, they must finalize deals to sell a portion of their television rights and Barca Licensing Merchandising (BLM), as well as sell a player to adjust their payroll limit.

For this reason, Barcelona seems willing to sacrifice Frenkie de Jong, with Manchester United determined to buy the Dutchman.

The Red Devils are offering €60 million plus €20 million in bonuses in their bid to buy De Jong’s services and Barcelona do not believe they will receive a similar offer for a player this summer.

Barcelona thinks the offer is too good to turn down, as their financial situation does not allow them to refuse large sums of money, despite Xavi Hernandez being pleased with De Jong’s performances and professionalism.

The Dutchman, who is one of the highest paid players on the squad, has been reluctant to leave Catalonia as his dream was to play for Blaugrana, where he believes he can improve under Xavi.

However, Manchester United’s insistence, Erik ten Hag’s interest in him and the pressure that Barcelona can put on their player can make him change his mind.

If Barcelona reach an agreement to sell De Jong to Manchester United, his sale will become the second most expensive transfer in the history of the club after that of Neymar.

The Brazilian striker had left the club for Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros in 2017.
