Former English defender of Arsenal and Tottenham, Sol Campbell has said that Italy has shown the best game at Euro 2020 so far.
The Azzurri are preparing to face Austria at Wembley this Saturday and Campbell spoke about the Italian national team’s appearance in the Euro 2020 group stage.
“The Azzurri have shown the best football in the European Championship so far,” Campbell told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Roberto Mancini is doing a great job. “Even in the last game, against Wales, despite eight changes, the scenario remained unchanged.”
The former England center-back praised the Italian players and chose three names that impressed him against Wales.
“I like Marco Verratti, he has important touches. Matteo Pessina is a revelation, a great player. Rafael Toloi also did well.”
“I was just surprised by the missed chance by Gareth Bale.”
Campbell continued to express his love for Italy as a country and team.
“I love Italy for several reasons: football, lifestyle, cuisine, fashion, artistic heritage. I remember the image of Ponte Milvio, on an evening in Rome three years ago. I was fascinated by her beauty.”
“As a former defender, I like the way football is interpreted. When I visited Sampdoria and Milan, I was treated very well. I would like a work experience in Italy”, concluded the English legend.
