Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has warned his midfielders that he will ask for much more from them during the new season, than just good play in the middle of the field.

Koeman is preparing the squad for the new 2021/22 season and hopes it will improve even more than in his first year at Camp Nou.

The Dutch coach aims for improvements throughout the field, but especially in midfield, where he called on some of the midfielders to give more of themselves by scoring goals.

“Frenkie de Jong must continue as he is. After the first season, he has made a big step forward and has more responsibilities in the team. “But he needs to improve ahead,” Koeman said.

He added: “Like all midfielders, De Jong should aim to score from three to six goals.”

The new 2021/22 season in La Liga will start on August 13, while Barcelona will start the new season in the league on August 15 when it hosts Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou.
