Robert Lewandowski believes that Cristiano Ronaldo had to work much harder than Lionel Messi to achieve career success, saying that for the Argentine everything seems easy.
Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski is the only one who has managed to challenge Ronaldo and Messi with his ability to score many goals in the last two seasons.
The Pole won the Golden Shoe, the award for the best goal scorer in Europe, in the last two seasons and came second in the race for the 2021 Golden Ball, after Messi.
Speaking in an interview with the German newspaper Bild, the 32-year-old was asked about his opinion on the rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi.
The Pole honored them by saying that they have been elusive to the other for a very long time.
“Since I became a professional, Messi and Ronaldo have been above all others. It has always been a duel just between them,” Lewandowski told Bild.
Lewandowski explained the difference between Ronaldo and Messi, echoing the opinion of the majority that the Argentine is a natural talent, while the Portuguese is a product of hard work.
“It depends on what type of player you like. The answer to this question is difficult. I respect the diligent work of Cristiano Ronaldo. For Lionel Messi everything seems easy. I think Cristiano had to work much harder to succeed,” he explained.
During this summer, both Ronaldo and Messi swapped clubs, the former returning to Manchester United while the latter joining Paris Saint-Germain.
While Messi won the Golden Ball for the seventh time in a row, Ronaldo was ranked only sixth and remains with five Golden Balls in his career.
