Messi equalizes the black record in the Champions League, after the missed penalty against Real Madrid

Lionel Messi equaled the record of former French striker Thierry Henry for the most missed penalties in the history of the Champions League, while he surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo for the most attempts from the penalty spot.

Messi lost 5 of the 23 penalties taken in this match, the last in Paris Saint-Germain 1: 0 victory against Real Madrid in the first match of the 1/8 finals on Tuesday.

Thibaut Courtois jumped to the right wing to wait for Messi’s shot from the penalty spot, after Kylian Mbappe had won the penalty.

Most of the time of the match between the two European giants, scoring opportunities were rare, apart from Messi’s missed penalty, with Madrid being content defending far back in the Parc des Princes.

Speaking after the match, Courtois said he had studied how Messi shoots penalties.

“I studied Messi’s penalties a lot and I tried to play with him when I was in the goal line. “But you have to be a little bit lucky, too,” said Courtois.
