Former Spain and Real Madrid coach Vicente del Bosque insists Lionel Messi should be rated the best footballer in the world, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Del Bosque believes that the main feature of Messi that makes him stand out from the others is the fact that he still plays creative street football, which the fans want to see.
“Messi (is the best in the world) and I will not tell you why,” Del Bosque told Canal Sur.
“I am not saying this to devalue Cristiano. Messi is a guy from the streets, from the neighborhood. He is one of those we have played with and who has made fun of us on the field. That is why he is the best in the world.”
Messi is the captain of Argentina and its leader in the America’s Cup that started this month.
Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, scored two goals in Portugal’s opening match against Hungary at Euro 2020.
