Lionel Messi’s goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s victory against Manchester City on Tuesday has been chosen as the best goal of the week in the Champions League.
Messi scored the first goal in the PSG shirt, which he joined as a free agent in the summer, in the important victory of the French giant against the Premier League champion on Tuesday.
The Argentine superstar scored PSG’s second goal after being served by Kylian Mbappe, helping his team to a 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes.
After 75 minutes of silence on the field, Messi came to life in the final quarter, when he ran the ball for the first time in the match, before exchanging passes with Kylian Mbappe and inserting the ball into Ederson’s net with a magic kick.
It was a great goal, not only the best of the evening, but of the week in the Champions League, according to the vote of the fans.
Messi left behind Sheriff’s Sebastien Hill, Manchester United’s Alex Telles and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
This was Messi’s fourth appearance for PSG since joining it in the summer from Barcelona.
Also, this goal means that Messi has scored a goal in 17 consecutive seasons in the Champions League, equaling the record that Karim Benzema had set on the same night in the shocking loss of Real Madrid against Sheriff.
It was the 34-year-old’s first goal for his new club, but his 121st in the Champions League and his 27th in 35 appearances for English teams – 15 more than any other player in the competition.
