Newcastle United are considering strengthening the squad in the January transfer window in a bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti is among his main targets.
Umtiti has long lost the trust of the club and Barcelona has been in desperate need of finding a buyer for him, mainly to get rid of the Frenchman due to his high salary.
The Catalan giant is in financial trouble and wants to fire high-paid footballers, with Umtiti being paid around 230,000 euros a week.
The 28-year-old, winner of the 2018 World Cup in France, has been on sale for almost two years.
Newcastle, the English club that was bought by the Saudi Arabian Investment Fund a few months ago to become one of the richest clubs in the world, is reportedly ready to offer Umtiti a very lucrative deal.
It is believed that Newcastle has made an offer worth 17 million euros to Barcelona for the services of the Frenchman.
Umtiti is said to be interested in Milan in Serie A and Benfica in Portugal.
