Cristiano Ronaldo made a mistake by rejoining Manchester United and his return to the club proved to be the wrong move for both sides, according to former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas.
Arsenal legend believes the duo Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are suffering from the return of the Portuguese veteran to Old Trafford.
The 36-year-old striker returned to Old Trafford from Juventus in August last year.
However, while Ronaldo is United’s top scorer so far this season, the team has made poor appearances on the pitch and has taken steps back compared to last season, when it finished in second place in the Premier League.
And Nicholas believes both sides of the deal are regretting their decision, as Ronaldo feels shocked by United’s downfall and United are suffering from the short-term plan.
“Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United has had no bearing on the development of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford this season,” said Nicholas.
“United do not buy a player the age of Ronaldo. It was not a wise decision by Manchester United and it was not a wise decision by Ronaldo either.”
He added: “Has Ronaldo been a success? No, but you can not blame the one who expressed the desire to return to one of the biggest clubs in the world. “
