Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has spoken about the transfer of Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann has been linked with a move to Atletico as part of a swap deal with Barcelona that would see Saul Niguez go the other way.

The latest reports suggest that the deal has ended with Atletico, which is close to risking a pay cut in La Liga, but who are able to complete Griezmann’s salary bill.

But as transfer rumors continue, Simeone has spoken out on the issue, stressing his excellent relationship with Griezmann while acknowledging that there have been talks about a possible return of the Frenchman.

“I have a very good relationship, a very beautiful relationship beyond sports, my children play with his children,” Simeone initially told Marca.

“Above all, for what he gave Atletico, I want him to do well in Barcelona, ??he is an extraordinary player.”

“I hope he can consolidate the player who has been to Euro 2020, to the World Cup, in five years with us.”

“I want nothing more than for him to triumph in Barcelona.”
