Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has named Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema and Lionel Messi as the three best players in the world in the last year.
Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski was named FIFA Player of the Year 2021 at the start of this game, just months after being defeated by Paris Saint-Germain superstar Messi in the 2021 Ballon d’Or race.
Lewandowski received the FIFA World Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, scoring just under 69 goals and breaking Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in the Bundesliga in a calendar year, 43.
Argentine Messi won the Golden Ball for the seventh time in a row, after helping his country win the America’s Cup 2021 and scoring 40 goals in 2021.
Benzema also enjoyed a very good year, scoring 30 goals for Real Madrid. While this season, the French striker has scored 28 goals so far.
Asked who are the top three players in the last year, Haaland said: “This is a good question. I think you have to say that Lewandowski is number one.”
“Then, for me, it is Benzema, who has also been amazing, but Messi is also great. “That is why Benzema and Messi share two and three places,” he added.
Haaland himself is one of the best on the planet, having scored 80 goals in 79 appearances for Dortmund in his career.
