Luis van Gaal for the third time at the helm of the Dutch national football team. The Dutch federation and the 70-year-old coach have already reached an agreement for a collaboration that will last until 2022.
The news was reported by the Dutch tabloid De Telegraaf, according to which Van Gaal has agreed to lead the “Tulips” until the “Qatar 2022” World Cup.
So far, there is no official confirmation from the Dutch Football Federation, which has been looking for a coach for the national team for weeks after the resignation of Frank de Boer, under whose leadership the Netherlands did not reach the goal in Europe, where it was eliminated by the Czech Republic in the 1/8 stage.
“Tulips” with de Boer on the bench did not start well even the World Cup qualifiers, as in the first challenge they were defeated 4-2 by Turkey. Another possible defeat against Norway, in the next match in September, would seriously question the qualification for the major football event, which will take place in the Asian country.
Van Gaal has led the Netherlands two more times. It is worth remembering especially his second experience, as he led the “Tulips” to the semifinals of the 2016 World Cup (they were ranked third).
In January 2017, after finishing his experience at the helm of Manchester United, van Gaal, who in his career has led other big teams such as Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern stated that he was retiring from training, but the opportunity to contribute to the national team seems to have tempted him to put on the coach’s clothes again.
