France captain Hugo Lloris has defended Kylian Mbappe for the missed penalty against Switzerland, which cost France a shock early departure from the 2020 European Championship.
After a fierce 3: 3 battle during the 120 minutes of the game, Yann Sommer defended Mbappes’ penalty and secured Switzerland a 5: 4 victory on penalties.
And, with that victory, Switzerland knocked down the 2018 World Champion and the main favorite of Euro 2020. Mbappe was the only one to miss the penalty.
But the goalkeeper and turkey captain defended the Paris Saint-Germain star after the match, saying the whole team is responsible for the elimination.
“In football, we win together and we lose together,” said Lloris.
“We are all responsible for the elimination. It’s painful and we should not point the finger of blame at anyone. We all fought together against the opponent and we have no reason to find excuses. We have to congratulate the Swiss team, it was great,” he added.
Switzerland will face Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday, which is the first in its history in the Euro.
