Arsene Wenger is by no means certain that Paris Saint-Germain will be able to convince Kylian Mbappe to stay at the Ligue 1 club. Mbappe’s contract expires in June this year and PSG are in danger of losing their star. From now on Mbappe can sign with a new team.
Real Madrid has been consistently linked for several years to sign the PSG striker, although the Parisian club has tried to persuade him to stay. Now, Wenger thinks it will be difficult for the French club for him to stay.
“Time is against PSG,” Wenger told Canal +.
“In my experience, when you try to renew with a player – the longer it goes the harder it gets.”
“I waited a year and a half for PSG to extend Mbappes’ contract. He is the player that PSG needs the most, for the way they play. But there is very little time left and today the player is free to sign wherever he wants.”
“PSG had an opportunity when they had an offer from Real Madrid. When you refuse 180 million euros, even for PSG this remains a huge amount of money. So, when you refuse this money, they said to themselves ‘either we should have a great season, since we have Lionel Messi and we should not lose Mbappe’ or they thought ‘we will manage to convince him’ to stay ‘”.
PSG will face Real Madrid in the Champions League in the 1/8 finals, with the first match to be played at the Parc des Princes on 15 February and the second match to be played on March 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
