With Messi, Neymar and Mbappe PSG will never win the Champions League

Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher believes Paris Saint-Germain will never win the Champions League by transferring, as he called them, passengers Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

PSG must agree to second place in Group A qualifiers after losing 2-1 to Manchester City on Wednesday at the Etihad.

Mbappe gave PSG the lead early in the second half, but Raheem Sterling equalized for City before Gabriel Jesus scored the winning goal with an overturn 14 minutes before the end.

Pep Guardiola’s team completely dominated PSG, in a match where the trio of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe failed to extend their influence.

And Carragher, now a football analyst at Paramount Plus, believes the PSG’s famous trio is extremely passive on the pitch and this significantly diminishes the Parisians’ chances of winning the European trophy.

“Nowadays teams can’t carry anyone,” said Carragher.

“I will tell the four teams, one of which will win the Champions League, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Bayern Munich, because these teams do not carry passengers with them,” he said.

“PSG is carrying three, this team has no chance to win the Champions League. “Paris Saint-Germain has no single chance of winning,” he insisted.

“I get nervous looking at them, with Mbappe more than anyone else. I understand Messi to some extent, because he is 34 years old, he has to save himself for certain moments, but still PSG can not carry him. “Let’s not forget, Barcelona has not won the Champions League for a long time”, he continued.

He added: “But Mbappe is 22 years old, he has to run down the top of the field and come back to help his teammates against a big team like City.”
