Lille has won the French Super Cup for the first time in the history of the club, after beating conspiratorial rival Paris Saint-Germain 1: 0 in the final on Sunday.

Xeka scored the winning goal for the French champion in front of about 30,000 fans in Tel Aviv, to win Lille the second trophy of the season.

The 26th edition of the French Super Cup took place at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The triumph for Lille is made even sweeter by the fact that in the final they defeated the great rival PSG, interrupting a series of eight trophies in a row in this competition.

Lille and PSG face off in the Super Cup as winners of Ligue 1 and the French Cup.

The French champion had lost two preliminary finals but an extraordinary rocket kick by Xeka in the 45th minute defeated Keylor Navas and was enough for Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team to triumph.

PSG had many shortcomings in this final, as coach Mauricio Pochettino did not have available the main stars such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, Marquinhos, Marco Verratti and Sergio Ramos, etc.

Pochettino’s team dominated the French champions, despite major absences, but lacked efficiency in front of the gate.

Leo Jardim made some great receptions to deny the goal to the Parisians, stopping the shots of Julian Draxler and Mauro Icardi in the first half.

Presnel Kimpembe managed to score for PSG but his goal was disallowed by the referee for offside position.

Perhaps PSG’s best chance came in the 95+ minute, when Jardim performed the miracle waiting for a shot from Georginio Wijnaldum from close range.

Lille closed out last season perfectly, defeating the conspiratorial rival in the race for the title in Ligue 1 and the Super Cup.
